🍊 Does Saijo Drop on Its Own?

Saijo is an astringent Asian persimmon, which means:

  • Fruit must become very soft and jelly-like before it’s sweet.

  • It often hangs on the tree after leaves fall.

  • Some fruit will drop naturally when fully ripe, especially after frost or wind.

  • Many growers harvest when fully orange but still slightly firm and let them soften indoors.

🌡️ What Triggers Drop?

  • Full ripeness (soft stage)

  • Hard frost

COLD HARDY 0 DEGREES (can survive winter lows near 0 °F_)Saijo persimmon is cold-hardy compared to many Asian persimmons and can often handle moderate freezing temperatures (especially in USDA Zone 7+), but in areas with very harsh winters (long below-zero conditions), its survival may be marginal unless protected.
